Have you been following the long C++ standardization process? If you have, you know that the new C++ standard has just been ratified as C++11 (formerly C++0x), and will be published in a matter of weeks. If you haven't, that's OK too; you're in for some good news as you learn about the exciting new features that are part of C++11. I can tell you this--I've already started using new C++11 features in production code, and they've made a big difference in productivity and ease of use.
